Give me turkey or give me death!

Ok, before I get in to this post, I did watch about 15 more minutes of the AMAs and Eminem and 50 cent performed - only you couldnt really hear the music because every other second of that performance was beeped out due to all the cursing, which You Cant Do That On Television! or on ABC for that matter. Eminem wore the same thing he wears in every performance, a hoodie with a leather jacket over it and pants that are about to fall down to his ankles at any moment. After that I couldn't stay awake anymore and went to bed.

On to today's post!

So some of you may know that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. For those of you who dont, let me just say that it is my FAVORITE holiday. I'd say that Christmas used to be my favorite when I was little and still believed in Santa Claus and knew that I was getting loads of presents because I was always such a good girl...and lets not forget that I got 2 weeks off of school back then - but now, Turkey-day has to be my favorite. Now that I'm in the real world there is no extra time-off associated with Christmas unless I want to take my vacation days during that time (and since I'm really bad about saving up my vacay time, I usually only have one or two days left at this time of year). I get 2 days off at Christmas, 2 days at New Years, and 2 days at Thanksgiving. So that kind of levels the playing field in terms of choosing my favorite holiday.

This is going to be one of the Best Weeks Ever. And I'll tell you why

  1. I only work 3 days this week.
  2. We are having a Thanksgiving lunch at my office on Tuesday which means 2-3 hours of social time when we should be "working".
  3. I love this cartoon - I saw this on a bumper sticker on FB last year and got quite a chuckle. Enjoy!
  4. Wednesday night will be filled with drunken debauchery with some of my best friends that I don't get to see much because they live out of state.
  5. Thursday is Thanksgiving. This means that all glutenous behavior is totally acceptable and I get to enjoy the company of my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. I know to some people that is not the most fun, but my cousins are awesome. And my Gran makes amazing food. And so does my uncle for that matter. And we'll all be boozing so that makes it all-the-more enjoyable.
  6. Black Friday. Ok, let me explain something to you here. Black Friday might be my favorite day of the year. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, but Black Friday is my favorite regular day - because it's not in fact regular at all! Now, I know some people think this is the worst day of the year but for my cousin Sara and I, it holds a special meaning for us. For years and years we have celebrated Black Friday with the best of them. We have pulled the 5am door-busters at the mall, at Old Navy, Best Buy, WalMart and the likes. We've even waited in line at the outlets at Midnight the night before Black Friday to get into Polo, Coach, BCBG and others. And you better believe we buy our own Christmas presents on Black Friday. Yep, we'll pick out that perfect coach purse and matching wallet and do one of two things: 1) Tell our mothers who are also enjoying the midnight madness with us that this is what we want for christmas and to get in line. or 2) Buy it ourselves and say "here mom, wrap this and put it under the tree. kthx." This behavior has never failed us, and while we might be exhausted by noon on Friday, it's totally worth it and we always prevail. Typically around 11 or 12 on Black Friday we meet up with Gran, Mom and Aunt Glenda at La Madeline. Call the boys who have been comatose on the couch watching football and eating leftovers and they'll come meet us for a movie. Sometimes we all agree on the movie, sometimes we dont. But we always see a movie of some sort. I know Sara and I are going to catch New Moon (again) because we simply have to watch it together. Sobeit if others partake in the Twilight Madness with us.
  7. College Football Rivalries. Yes, Georgia has suffered a terrible loss this past week (in more ways than one, RIP Uga VII) but I always look forward to Georgia/Ga Tech. That and Florida/FSU. My family has alumnus from all 4 of these schools so it's always a good time to watch these together.
  8. My roommate's mom's cheesecake. This is not definite, seeing as I haven't asked if PCBH's mom will be making her famous cheesecake again this year, but last year I was in heaven. And I hope to be so blessed again this year.
  9. Did I mention the food? There is something so wonderful about the honey-baked ham, the dark-meat of the turkey, the sweet potatoes, the triple mac & cheese, pralines, veggie casserole, broccoli casserole, and who could forget the cheese souffle!!
OMG, my mouth is watering. I seriously can't wait! God bless the tryptophan fix!

If you need me this week, I will be partaking in one of the aforementioned turkey-day activities listed above. Nothing can bring my week down! not even the loads of paperwork I have to do before Wednesday afternoon!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

B
