Tur-Tur-Key-Key Day

Ah, Thanksgiving. My favorite holiday of the year, followed by my favorite non-holiday, day of the year, Black Friday. You all remember the things I love about Thanksgiving, right? Well this year, I'm super excited as always, to celebrate another year of delicious food and the tryptophan hangover. But fortunately or unfortunately, this will be a somewhat untradtional Thankgiving for me there. Let's review the good and the bad things about this year, shall we?

  1. Good: My Florida cousins are coming in town for Thanksgiving - this is a rare event. Usually we only see them around Christmas and maybe another holiday near the summer time, but this year they're joining us for the holiday.
  2. Good: My best friend Erin (the one who moved to San Fran) - her family is joining us for the holiday too. We've never had them over for Thanksgiving. Bad: I guess they're trying to fill the void of Erin not being there by spending it with their best friends. I can get behind that...but I really wish that Erin was going to be here too. Unfortunately for us, flights are extremely expensive around the holidays.
  3. VERY BAD: I'm running a half marathon on Turkey Day. And I haven't trained for it at all. So this should be fun. And I may or may not finish the actual race thanks to my lack of preparation for the race. Seriously, what was I thinking when I signed up for this thing? My life is way too busy right now to commit to running upwards of 20 miles a week to train for a half marathon. What's WRONG WITH ME?
  4. EVEN WORSE: Thanks to #3, I will not be spending my annual "get shit-faced with Ted the night before Thanksgiving" tradition that we know so well. In fact, my own roommates won't even be around on Wednesday night this year. One is out of town and the other is working. And since I have to get up at 5:30 on Thanksgiving, I'm going to have to go to bed early, which means no getting sloshed the night before with Ted. This saddens me more than anything else about Thanksgiving this year.
  5. VERY GOOD: The food will be as great as it's ever been - maybe even better this year because Erin's dad is pretty much the most amazing chef ever. And my Florida uncle's not too shabby either.
  6. AWESOME: $0.99 tickets to NYE go on sale on Black Friday at 3am. And these tickets include an open bar. Yes & Please. Let's just hope they don't sell out before I purchase mine!
  7. Bad: I have to work on Black Friday - at night, but working nonetheless. WHY!?!?! What's wrong with me this year? Am I just growing up and taking more responsibility or do I have some kind of self-torture in the back of my mind. ugh. I guess it's worth the extra money but I'm not going to be too happy if I have to work super late and don't get tipped. Working Friday night cuts my afternoon of shopping WAY down. And it cuts into my annual family movie. Not ok.
So yeah...pretty much this year's Tur-Tur-Key-Key Day is going to to have it's ups and downs compared to last year. You may be wondering why I keep saying Tur-Tur-Key-Key Day. 5 words: How I Met Your Mother. Ted has coined a new name for a Turkey. Because instead of stuffing the turkey this year with stuffing/dressing. He's stuffing the turkey with a small turkey. So it's a Tur-Tur-Key-Key.

Yes and please.

But not really because that sounds kind of gross. Please pass the dressing instead. Happy Tur-Tur-Key-Key Day!
