Ok, so I really don't feel like doing much at work today, as a result I've wasted about 2.5 hours on my friend Tyler's Kickstarter, Youtube and Facebook page. He released his album for free download today to all of his "backers" (me!) so I've been enjoying the smooth sounds of Tyler Herrin most of the day. I also updated my "about me" page on my blog so check that out if you feel like it. But this post isn't about me, it's about Tyler. So here goes!
I met Tyler about 2 years ago now (wow! I can't believe it's been that long!). He was a friend of a friend who was playing a gig at Tin Lizzy's in Buckhead and I went to dinner to enjoy my friend's company as well as hear him play/sing with his friend Erik. Well, I gotta say, I was pretty impressed from the get-go. He played some great covers including stuff from Coldplay, The Beatles, Johnny Cash and more. I ended up meeting him and saw him again a few times over the next several weeks. He seemed like a pretty cool guy and was HILARIOUS on the mic - always cuttin up and telling jokes. He and Erik had a pretty regular gig at Park Bench on Thursday nights so that pretty much became a weekly outing for my friends and me. One night one of my friends convinced them (and me) to let me sing with them. So I did a little johnny and june duet w/ Tyler, followed by an Alanis solo and had an absolute BLAST. I got such a rush from being back on stage again - it had been FOREVER. It was so fun and I immediately knew that these guys were pretty awesome 1) for letting me sing with them and 2) being able to wing it with me, no rehearsals, and get by fairly unscathed and 3) they knew awesome Beatles songs like this:
...AAANNNDDD I'm sold. Pretty awesome right??
Anyway, so that's what I've spent the majority of my day doing - listening to Tyler's new album and watching youtube videos of covers he's done. I'm soooo super proud of him for doing what he's passionate about and I am so excited for his album to be released! When he makes it big like John Mayer, I'm going to be so proud to say "I knew him when..." If you don't know the talented, goofy and sexy artist, Tyler Herrin, I suggest you fan him on facebook and start following his album release - and definitely check him out on Youtube as well. It should keep you entertained for several hours (I know it did me).
And on that note, I think I've successfully wasted another hour of my day SO, you kids enjoy and i'll see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning (or maybe Friday morning, who knows)
Hallah!
B
